The Wallaceburg Ukulele Group

Our First Year!

Our First Year! What a year it was...
For year, group leader Barry Betts had been receiving community requests to start a ukulele learning group. A year and a half ago, Barry decided "lets do it!" The intital group was named: The Wallaceburg Ukulele Group and it formally started giving lessons in February 2018 and they have not looked back!

There are currently over 100 members belonging to the Ukulele Group held on Fridays at Trinity United Church. In total there are 10 classes: 8 beginner classes, and 2 intermediate classes. If an individual is passionate about learning more ukulele eventually they move from "Beginner" into "Weekly Jam and Learn". The "Weekly Jam and Learn Group" is the home of the WADUKES performers. The new semester for all classes starts on Friday January 18, 2019.

Next month on February 27, 2019 The Wallaceburg Ukulele Group will be having a "Strum Out" at the Wallaceburg Legion. All are welcome. Food and drink for purchase will be served from 5-6 by the Legion staff. The Strum Out will start at 6:00 pm and run until 8:00 pm for 3 months on the 4th Wednesday of each month.

Past Events

2018 was a VERY successful first year for the Wallaceburg Ukulele Group and the WADUKES. With public performances held at the 2018 International Ploughing Match, the Wallaceburg BIA Open House, and the Christmas Carol Sing at the Trinity United Church. Barry Betts is quoted as saying, "This group has grown far beyond my expectations."

August 2018, The Wallaceburg Ukulele Group held a Ukulele Workshop and Performance with the Ukulele Kings from Lansing Michigan. Ukulele participants explored a range of techniques, chords, strum patterns, tuning, grooves, and songs, with interactive demonstrations and rehersal activities for $20. An evening performance by the Ukulele Kings was also held that night as part of the Wallaceburg and District Council for the Arts - Summer Concert Series at Library Park along the majestic Sydenham River. Another workshop and show are being organized for August 2019. Details to follow.

Gently Used Instruments Needed!

Wallaceburg Ukulele Group is always looking for donations of instruments and equipment or donations of cash to purchase instruments, equipment and make repairs.

If you have a gently used ukulele that you would like to donate to us, it will help us to develop our program. We evaluate the instrument and assign a value and give the donor a tax receipt for the value of the instrument that they donate. It is a great way to support musicians in our community and the Wallaceburg Ukulele Group.

Call Dave Elliott 519-809-2224 for more details and to arrange drop off or pickup.
